The Torrey Hills community has I-5 to the west, the SR 56 highway to the north, Los Penasquitos Canyon to the south and connects to the Carmel Country Highlands community on the east, via Carmel Mountain Road. Once known as Sorrento Hills, this area is one of the oldest residential areas of Carmel Valley, having paved its last remaining dirt road, Arroyo Sorrento Road, around 2000. Over the years, community groups have been active in preserving the area’s rural feel, and even today, the Torrey Hills Community Planning Board maintains a strong presence. Housing options include apartments, condominiums, townhomes, and single-family detached homes. A bike and walking path that parallels the SR 56 highway runs past the San Diego Jewish Academy and the main residence of Mount Carmel Ranch, built in 1905 by the Sisters of Mercy. The Torrey Hills Neighborhood Park is popular with active families for its baseball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, and grass areas.
